Tea Tips
The best tasting tea begins with good quality water.  Never use distilled water.  Always be sure to follow recommended amount of tea and brewing times.

 Brewing Tea
1.   Fill your kettle with fresh cool water and bring to a boil.  For green tea, remove kettle from heat just short of boiling.

2.   Place one teaspoon of tea leaves per cup in your pot, filter or infusing basket.

3.  Pour hot water over the leaves, cover and steep as directed.  Infuse herbs for at least 4 minutes.

4.   Enjoy!

Instant Iced Tea
Follow the instructions for brewing regular hot tea, except increase the amount by 50%.  When the tea has brewed, remove the leaves and pour directly into a glass or plastic container filled with ice.  Add more ice and sweeten to suit your taste.

Cold Brewed Iced Tea
Place 2-3 teaspoons of loose tea in a filter, or use 2-3 SM tea sachets.  Fill a 16 oz. glass or plastic container with cold water.  Let steep overnight, or at least 8 hours, in a refrigerator.  Remove the filter or tea sachets and serve over ice.

Benefits of Tea

Many dentists have noted a healthy relationship between tea and oral health.  Since the bacteria that causes periodontal disease has been linked to increase risks of heart disease, diabetes and pregnacy complications, it is important to take good care of your teeth including daily flossing.

The benefits of green tea for teeth, in particular, can be attributed to low acidity and natural floride.  This month SenTeaMental Moods is happy to celebrate the healthy benefits of drinking green tea.

All true teas are the leaves of the camellia sinensis plant.   The degree to which the leaf is processed will determine the type of tea produced from the fresh green leaf.  White and green teas are essentially unoxidized, black teas are fully oxidized, and oolong teas are somewhere in between.

All teas share components that affect how you feel and what you taste and smell.

Caffeine - Provides a pleasant lift. Herbals have no caffeine.

Polyphenols - gives tea its distinctive color.  This is the main component that the medical community has studied most and linked as an aid to certain health challenges like digestion, cancer, high blood pressure, weight loss, tooth decay and aging.

Essential Oils - Gives tea its fragrance
